Hidden federal bailouts benefit businesses
The federal financial bailouts of the past few years received tremendous publicity, but multiple sources of “hidden bailouts” eluded notice, says Cheryl D. Block, JD, professor of law. Hidden sources include new, expanded tax credits, the more liberal IRS interpretation of regulations, and “off-off budget” bailouts by quasi-governmental agencies such as the Federal Reserve Bank, according to Block’s research. - Softball benefits from home cooking. A doubleheader sweep of Blackburn College March 23 was the softball team’s ninth win in the past 10 games and fifth of six wins on its current 12-game homestand. The team is 16-5-1 overall and looks to continue the home streak Saturday, March 26, with a doubleheader against Milliken University.
